GEO knowledge base

Becoming discoverable and citable in AI Search

GEO is still a young discipline. We therefore distinguish established SEO principles, public crawler information and our own measurement methods from unproven tactics.

Four-step GEO learning path: definition, relationship with SEO, technical accessibility and repeatable measurement.
The GEO knowledge base separates platform documentation, SEOJuice methods and testable hypotheses.
  • No secret markup: Google states no additional technical requirements for AI features beyond normal SEO.
  • Crawler policy: OpenAI publishes which crawler needs access for ChatGPT Search.
  • Repeatable measurement: Every measurement result includes a prompt, model, time and source URL.

Recommended learning path

Start with the definition and comparison. Then move to the technical and editorial checklist and finally read how SEOJuice limits its measurements.

From knowledge to implementation

The GEO optimisation service page translates this knowledge into an audit, improvement plan and measurement setup. A mention or citation remains dependent on the system and cannot be forced.

  • Technical accessibility
  • Clear entity information
  • Question-led content
  • Measure with recorded context

Learn GEO in four steps

Start with the definition, not an optimisation trick. Then understand which elements already fall under SEO, check the publicly documented technical requirements for each AI search experience and finally determine how mentions and citations are measured repeatably.

This order prevents a single crawler setting, schema change or AI text from being mistaken for a complete GEO strategy. Each step has its own checkpoint and links to the page explaining its basis and limitations.

  • Definition: what GEO does and does not cover
  • Connections: what SEO, AEO and GEO share
  • Accessibility: public crawler and indexing requirements
  • Measurement: record prompt, system, date and source URL

Three levels of certainty in GEO statements

Not every GEO statement has the same evidential strength. Platform documentation describes what a provider makes public. An SEOJuice method describes how we conduct a check or measurement. A working hypothesis is a testable expectation that cannot yet be presented as an established effect.

By visibly labelling these levels, readers can judge the basis of advice. An official crawler description differs from our own classification model, and an observed association is not yet a ranking factor confirmed by a platform.

  • Platform documentation: publicly described by the relevant platform
  • SEOJuice method: our documented checking or measurement process
  • Working hypothesis: a testable expectation with explicit uncertainty

From knowledge to verifiable implementation

A useful GEO plan links each action to an existing or deliberately chosen URL. It specifies the question answered, the source or expertise required, who checks the content and which technical or editorial signal can be verified after publication.

The GEO optimisation service page explains how such an analysis is performed. The knowledge base remains the place to consult definitions, platform conditions and measurement rules publicly and without guarantees of results.

  • One goal and main question per core URL
  • Visible source and content owner
  • Publication and discovery as separate statuses
  • Assess impact only after multiple valid measurement points

Frequently asked questions

Does GEO replace SEO?

No. GEO builds on the same technical and editorial foundations. It places additional emphasis on clear answers, source use and measuring AI mentions and citations.

Does GEO guarantee a mention?

No. Models, source indexes, prompts and answers change. The approach can improve the information base but cannot force selection.

Is every GEO tip proven?

No. Some technical requirements are publicly documented; other advice consists of methods or hypotheses. SEOJuice labels that difference and does not present a hypothesis as an official ranking factor.

Why do GEO answers change regularly?

AI systems, available sources, prompts, language, location and time can change. That is why measurement context belongs with every result.

Which guide should I read first?

Start with What is GEO, then read SEO vs GEO vs AEO, followed by the ChatGPT checklist and the public measurement methodology.
